A beautiful story
After being defeated by Ip man, Cheung Tin Chi moves to Shanghai with his son to try to live an honest and remote life from the world of martial arts, opening a shop with some labor money for a gangster, which he leaves in how much can. But it is not difficult to get away from the messes, and one day by chance, helping some girls to escape from thugs, he ends up at the police station and with a band following him to take revenge. It turns out that this band is a part of the largest criminal organization in Shanghai, they end up destroying the store and you have to go live with a new acquaintance, friend of the girls he saved and owner of an English bar. When the band in question wants to enter the drug business in the city, everything will be much more complicated, contradicting the orders of their bosses, seeking alliances with the English, etc. which will end up splashing everyone involved in the story.
For starters, what we will tell you for sure is that, although changing director and characters, it is a perfect installment of the Ip Man saga, keeping all the elements that have characterized the previous films, such as a simple and classic story, but involving much more than it seems; perfectly choreographed martial arts scenes; some great characters (not only the main ones) and very good action actors that interpret them.
Like the rest of the films in the saga, this is not a simple martial arts movie, but tries to delve a little into the great problems of China at the time, which were basically the supremacy of the English and the problem with drugs; so it has a somewhat deeper message than is seen with the naked eye, although it teaches it in a pleasant and popular way so that it can be seen and understood by all kinds of audiences and so that it does not get bored considering that the viewer You will watch an action movie.

Perfect choreographies
With great cinematography, good recreation of scenarios, etc. and a perfect rhythm throughout the film, not of those fast-paced that define the current action cinema, but very well measured and very well interspersed with the parts of history and some drama with those of action to create something meaningful, but not Bored in no time. And here he has taken care of all the great Yuen Woo-Ping (Drunken master, Iron monkey) a classic martial arts classic that here deals with both directing, as choreographies and who can not reproach anything, a great work.
Another of the strengths of the film are its actors, not only Max Zhang (SPL 2, The brink) in a leading role, mixing his dramatic role well with a great ability to recreate spectacular fights, but also luxury side-ups like Tony Jaa (Ong back, Paradox), that the poor man doesn't even speak (for knowing only Thai and a bit of poorly pronounced English) and almost doesn't appear, Michelle Yeoh (Tiger and dragon, Reign of assassins) in an older woman's role, but demonstrating his skills and a great Dave Baptist (Guardians of the galaxy, Warriors gate) with a slightly ridiculous pint to represent the bad English, but with a great final fight.
In short, if you are fans of the Wilson Yip Ip Man saga, do not miss this spin-off that keeps all the essence of the saga, but changing characters, offering great martial arts scenes and a classic and beautiful story.
The best of the movie:
Even changing director, it perfectly maintains the essence of Ip Man.
The worst of the movie:
Why such a ridiculous Batista? With how macho he is.
