 Triple threat

Today we come with another novelty of Asian cinema, a film that we have been waiting for a long time and that have sold us as something revolutionary. This is Triple threat, a co-production between China, Thailand and the USA that has been characterized by having some of the best martial artists of the present and that proposes one of those non-stop action movies, without being with little girls and straight to the point , what people want to see, which are shots and kicks, you know, the movement started a few years ago by The raid. The truth is that lately many movies of this type are being made (at least one each year), some of them leave us impacted by knowing how to go beyond what we saw in the previous one and others remain forgotten because they have good action scenes, but not knowing how to contribute anything new or being more extreme than the rest.

 Triple threat
 A tall protagonist trio
On this occasion, the argument cannot be more simple and worthless; A group of American mercenaries are heading to a base in the jungle guided by a couple of locals who believe they are going to do a humanitarian mission, but it is not so, they are actually traffickers who are going to rescue their leader and let die their guides along with the rest of the base survivors after the attack. But the guides are harder than it seems, and manage to escape; back to the city and meeting with one of the survivors of the attack they convince that they are the good guys, not only will they find a diplomat in charge of fighting for the peace that is being attacked by the same traffickers, but that the band will find out they are still alive, so they must protect the girl and themselves fighting to kill them all.

Of course, in these cases we don't care if the story is simple, typical, silly, unreal, etc. the only thing that matters to us is that the action does not stop for a minute and that this is the best possible in all aspects, all we want is a good martial arts show no matter what or why; and the truth is that they have achieved this perfectly.

And the truth is that the action is very good, we not only have martial arts, but we can enjoy attacks with all kinds of weapons, from a military attack to a base just at the beginning of the movie (without warning, presenting or presenting nothing) until confrontations by hand in small buildings, shootings in the middle of the city, white weapons ... and all that changing the scene in each scene. And not only in the variety is the fun, but the quality of the scenes is very good, both by completely professional actors, and by a director who knows how to take advantage of something good, with long and flat shots that go from the general up to a more intimate camera approach in hand.

 Triple threat
 Some bad at height
We must also admit that we loved being able to take martial artists from different countries and with different fighting styles, this has given the film a lot of variety and more when each of them has a peak scene where you can show off without the others not shading him; Thus we have samples of Muai Thai, Pencak silat and Kung fu and what has impressed us the most, to see martial arts by bare hand defeating armed mercenaries to the top. Of course, although it has been quite spectacular, at no time are super fantastic action scenes, of those incredible that only look good in a fantastic or humorous context, here everything has been tried to become serious and credible (within what fits) .

Leaving aside all the action stop that has convinced us completely, the film does not have much more, so we believe that in the end it will be one of those that will have forgotten at most in a year, when another similar one that surpasses it comes out again ; It has nothing original, nor is it extreme to the core, we don't even have any action scene of those that you can say you had never seen anything like in the cinema.

To all this, with some actors who represent the latest generation of martial arts experts in different Asian countries: Tony Jaa from Thailand (Ong bak, The protector), Iko Uwais from Indonesia (The raid, The night comes for us) and Tiger Chen from China (Hollywood blockbuster choreographer), accompanied by a great Scott Adkins and some special appearance like that of Jeeja Yanin (Chocolate, Raging Phoenix) that almost does not appear and says nothing, but has a very cool presence.

In short, a film that will be remembered for representing the best of each house in the current panorama of martial arts cinema, but little else, although it has excellent action scenes, in the end it is a bit bland in general.
 The best of the movie:
Although we hardly see her, Jeeja Yanin is cool.

 The worst of the movie:
Nothing in particular, just the feeling of seeing nothing new.
