The Road not Taken
One of the highest quality films that surprised us most in the past Nits Oriental Cinema Festival was without a doubt The road not taken, a thriller from China with a road movie format that takes us to a very particular desert with perfect individuals for a history of misunderstandings and various deceptions. It is not a great production, but it is not a series B film, it is a somewhat independent film that rather than looking for a very impressive image, it is tried to focus on the characters and the actors who interpret them to support a story not too complicated .

The characters are loved
It is the story of an ostrich farmer somewhat garrulous that lives in the middle of the desert separated from his wife and very tight of money; Because of a good debt to a local mafia, he agrees to take care of a child who is supposed to be the nephew of the boss, but it is clearly not, to take care of him for a while until they come looking for him. When the farmer decides to go see his ex-wife, he has no choice but to get the child with him and that's where the story begins to get interesting, with a garrule traveling through the desert with an ostrich transport truck and a child kidnapped in the back. Together they will find very diverse people, some will try to set traps or difficulties for the road and others will come to help them wanting or not wanting to, but the most important thing is that, little by little, a relationship between the two that will make the most interesting way.
The film is not about being too serious, but neither has a lot of humor, maybe a little black humor, but not to start laughing, just to make the story more realistic (and in life not everything is a serious moment) ; Nor will we tell you that it is a very complicated story or that it is going to be tied up a lot, the truth is that most situations are somewhat exceptional, but not extraordinary, many of them we had already seen in other films.

Here what is more important are two great concepts, the first is the relationship between the two main characters, a relationship that does not go from hate to love as in other more extreme films, but begins as indifference and with a child who almost never note on the screen, but that is taking center stage little by little, until it comes to mean something to the farmer; even so, they do not feel anything special for each other, but end up with a relationship of respect and mutual care in common adversities.
The other concept is that of the decisions taken, each choice made by the protagonist will lead you through a different path, but not only that, but we will be aware of many of the paths that will be lost for not having chosen another option and so will make us Think to the public about the paths we are taking in life and where they lead us.
Apart from that, we must say that it is a quite surprising film, not for what it counts, but for how it tells it, making a whole trip of unforeseen events that range from simple anecdote to theft or attempted murder, without an order increasing, so everything will follow an order and a rather chaotic rhythm that will suddenly take the mind of the consumer from one place to another.
The filmography is quite correct, without wanting to stand out in the visual section, nor is it left behind at any time, more reinforced by special locations, a type of life far removed from any current we know and some rather curious characters, but without going over of extravagant, rather of an unusual reality.
In short, a film that will make us undertake an amazing journey with his characters, both physically and emotionally; without too many frills, but very effective and easy to see.
