Today we return with another of the novelties that Neflix offers us in terms of Asian cinema, and the truth is that we do not scare, this platform never convinces us completely with its proposals (apart from some good purchases), but it is an easy way to recommend you things you can see (or not) quietly. Today's movie is called Maria and it is a film of pure action from the Philippines, already coming from that country, we can't wait, but we have given it a chance and it's not too bad. We could compare it to the recent Mrs. K, but without the quality of the latter.

A normal protagonist
The argument is the most typical in the world, Maria is a hired killer who has managed to create a family, with a husband and a daughter, and is already tired of her work; After leaving it and disappearing from the map, she has a small problem and that is that her husband is somewhat involved in politics, that makes her be seen in some social event and her former companions detect her, so they decide to remove her from the middle as soon as possible. ; but they make the mistake of going to look for her at home and end her family leaving her alive. That's when she goes to her old teacher and asks for help to get back into action and eliminate everyone who was on her team and now they have finished her new life.
Actually this should be an action movie without more, and so we would have been satisfied; but it is not so, but they try to introduce a part of feelings and perhaps something deeper, and this is where they bundle it, since they neither have enough time nor experience to do it, nor the actors are too good to get to offer something with A minimum of quality.

Instead, we don't have much complaint about the action scenes themselves; They are not wonderful, they do not even look spectacular, but they are quite resultonas, with some of them, especially those of the end, somewhat outstanding and worthy of a medium production. There is not much martial arts, just enough to be able to say that it is an Asian film, here almost everything is shots and some white weapons, the truth is that quite varied and with very decent specialists. They have also tried to look for some charismatic villains (only in appearance), but that is why it has fallen into more topics of action cinema: hard uncles, sexy girls ...
What happens is that it shows from afar that it is nothing more than a TV movie, like most of the films produced by Netflix, and here we have a low cinematographic quality in general; a rather weak rhythm, not because there are no fast scenes, but because they have no idea to combine these with the rest of the story and because we see a principle not very long, but boring; a music that tries to be a cane in the action scenes, but stays in library music, etc.
And to top it all, the film leaves us with an open end, as if it were going to have a second part because the story does not end in it, so we are left with the desire, but without too much eagerness to see the end, either.
In short, an action movie that, because it is made in the Philippines, is quite correct, but compared to other similar products that we have been watching recently, it has no appeal, does not bring anything new or original and the action is rather normal.
