Title Full Movie - Konfu
We want to continue with the latest Chinese productions to which we have had access, but today we do it with a film that has had a much more important budget than usual and we assume that marketing, etc. also considerable. The tape in question is Kung fu monster, but do not be fooled by the title, since it has absolutely no kung fu, and the truth is that very few monsters, at least we let you know, it is rather a Humor movie for the whole family.
Kung fu monster
Typical wuxia characters
The story is quite original, although later we will tell you more. Here we have the typical white-haired eunuch who has become very powerful in his region (Ming dynasty, of course), but he has the peculiarity that he likes to collect monsters and tame them so they don't kill humans; his latest acquisition is an adorable toddler who is assigned by one of his most loyal soldiers to dome, but the soldier becomes fond of him and trains him good, so that the eunuch gets angry with both of them and throws a huge reward for whoever delivers the monster or the soldier. A few years later, society is mired in poverty and all the bandits and bounty hunters fight each other to get the maximum loot they can; it is then that a mystical warrior (all in white and with fantastic powers) begins to recruit a team of bandits (each more ridiculous) to help her on a mission; what they don't know is that the mission will be to rescue the soldier who has been imprisoned and that they will also have to deal with the monster.
The truth is that the whole movie has a very childish air, even the monster is characterized by being adorable and achuchable to the fullest, even when it transforms and has to be more powerful, it remains equally cute; also all the characters are very flat, with different characteristics, but without any personality; and finally the story itself is completely linear and with concern that everything is perfectly understood, far removed from the Chinese films to which we are accustomed.
Kung fu monster
An adorable little monster
But not everything is going to be bad, but the director, who has surely hired for this production just because they had the necessary money, is not as simple as that, and for all fans of Asian cinema (or more specifically wuxias ) makes us some gifts in the form of humorous references; so we have above all the names of all the main characters, which are in the style of the old wuxias, but mocking the personalities of each one; we have loved the second presentation of the film, where we see the title again and we have an excellent presentation of a group of typical wuxia characters (the best of the film, although later we only see them a few minutes in action), the discovery of the mythical fighter manco (a skeleton without an arm) and his ancestral technique, etc ... in short, everything is full of references that, at least to us, have made us die of laughter.
On the action side, we warn you that there is not a sad martial arts fight, all the action scenes or that simulate a confrontation are pure waste of CGI, with characters that almost do not move. What we do have are some very successful special effects (here you can see where the money is in this movie) and a general rhythm of action tape, not in its concept, but in knowing how to maintain movement and laughter at all times, without Don't even stop to tell the story calmly.
And as for the story, because we have a very powerful principle, which could give play to a thousand fantastic adventures, but then we are going towards the purest humor, entering more than one subplot, but taking away all importance and highlighting only easy, ridiculous and childish jokes (although some have made us laugh too).
For this film there has been an excessively qualified staff, who brings us some good things, but that was not necessary for such nonsense, such as Andrew Lau (Infernal affairs, The duel) as director or Louis Koo (Call of heroes, Drug war) as the protagonist.
In short, a very entertaining, friendly and adorable film for the whole family; but don't be fooled by the title, nor kung fu, nor monsters, just pure childish humor. Something quite on the wave of Monster Hunt, but eliminating all traces of martial arts.
The best of the movie:
The second intro with that group of heroes is the most.
The worst of the movie:
We did not like the monster (although I suppose the children do).
